Carla’s Journal — From Idea to Ideal

In the beginning, it was just frustrating and now there’s DashBar!

It shouldn’t be this complicated!!  I kept telling myself this over and over.  After a long week at work I was looking forward to start packing for a last-minute romantic trip that my husband surprised me with. (Yay!)  I wanted to look my best, so I decided to get my hair, nails and lashes done. I had all Saturday to get it done plus run some other errands – no big deal! (So I thought) How wrong could I have been?  First, there wasn’t any one place near me that performed all of those services, so I had to call the blow dry salon, the nail salon and the new lash place. Of course, none of them had an app where I could just schedule the appointments.  I had to call all three of them. Needless to say, I got put on hold a few times as they stumbled through some big book of appointments and then I had to juggle scheduling between the three places so there was enough time between appointments.  Ok, just lost half an hour doing that. Six hours later I was exhausted, frustrated and hungry – and I still had to get home to pack for my vacation. (Yikes!) My entire day had been filled with delayed appointments, rude staff (do you really need to talk to your BFF while you’re doing my nails?), rushing from one place to another and starving to death the whole time.  There had to be a better way! 

After that night I couldn’t shake the idea of a beautiful and welcoming salon where all of these services could be provided efficiently, cheerfully and quickly. (How great would that be?) I told my husband about my dream salon and he couldn’t believe that there wasn’t a place where all of these services could be delivered by quality technicians under one roof.  (Men have no clue! LOL) Don’t get me wrong, I was mostly happy with the results but six hours!! That’s my entire day. It was inefficient, it was stressful, and it sucked. It became clear to me that the salon business needed an extreme makeover and I decided that I would be the one to do it. (I’m coming in like a wrecking ball!!)

Now, I’m a natural born entrepreneur. Since I was in my 20’s I’ve owned and operated several businesses.  I succeeded even in ones where I had no prior experience. A lot of great companies have been founded by people who weren’t taxi drivers (Uber), cooks (McDonalds), or baristas (Starbucks).  What they all had in common was a desire to do things in a new and better way. So, I spent a year studying the industry, talking to salon owners and workers, meeting with consultants and experts, speaking with customers like me to develop something different, better and unique.  I know, I know… this isn’t going to change the world and at the end of the day a blow dry is a blow dry. But as anyone who has ordered an Uber, shopped on Amazon or had food delivered by GrubHub, there are ways to do things that are easier, more convenient and hassle free. After a year of my quest for a better way to accomplish all your beauty routines, the DashBar was finally born!! The goal is to improve (even if just a little bit) the quality of life for the millions of mothers, wives, working women, college students, and all the rest who want to look their best but also want to spend more time doing what they love and with whom they love rather than wasting time going all over town.  Instead, we want you to experience a beautiful, relaxed salon with state-of-the-art services delivered by expertly trained technicians who want to make your day just a little bit less harried and hurried.
